The Sacramento International Airport (SMF) – Everything You Need to Know!
Sacramento International Airport is the primary airport serving Sacramento, California. The Sacramento County Airport System, a county government department owned and governed by the County of Sacramento, runs the airport. In its worldwide and domestic route network, Sacramento International Airport handles freight, charter flights, and passenger services.
What to Expect
The Sacramento International Airport is expanding its nonstop service, announcing several new nonstop flights to make weekend trips and Spring Break trips easier than ever. Passengers going to Hawaii also have a convenient on-airport option for testing that meets the state’s entry requirements.
SMF has partnered with CityHealth Urgent Care to provide free COVID-19 testing to travelers. Testing is done every day in one of the airport’s parking lots.
COVID Protocols
The CDC has implemented a new policy that requires all foreign visitors, including US citizens, to have a negative COVID test within 72 hours before returning home. If you’re traveling from Mexico or Canada, check with your airline to see what testing requirements they have.
Know Before You Go
As we gear up for the spring travel season, Sacramento International Airport continues to put the health and safety of passengers first. Not only has the airport changed the way we prepare the terminal for travelers, but the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) also has rolled out new rules to reduce the spread of coronavirus. A few things to keep in mind before arriving at SMF that will make traveling easier:
- For Parking: The East Economy’s $10 per day price tag is open with shuttles running to both terminals. The Garage, which costs $18 per day, and the Daily Lot, which costs $10 per day, are also accessible. The hourly lot pricing remains at $29 per day.
- Self-Scanning: Handing the boarding passes to TSA employees is not necessary. The passengers will scan their own boarding passes and will not pass them on to TSA workers.
- For Liquids: Bath salts and other similar products in 3.4 ounce or smaller containers are still permitted, with the exception of hand sanitizer, which may be found in a 12-ounce container. It must be removed from baggage before being x-rayed and will be examined separately.
- For Food: When packing for carry-on, keep in mind that there’s a possibility they’ll bring meals on board. To be scanned, passengers should place their food in a clear plastic bag separate from their luggage and in a distinct tray.
- For Personal Items: To avoid contamination, the TSA recommends that all personal belongings (keys, phones, wallets, etc.) be placed in carry-on bags rather than directly in the bins.
