We wrote a post about this last year, and got a great response from Heidi, below:

Here’s what you need to know:

“There’s a short YouTube video about driving rental cars on E-470.

Also, you can visit E-470′s rental car web page to read about it it as well:

Also, when driving E-470 with a rental car,
we suggest adding the rental cars license plate to an EXpressToll account
to avoid the additional rental car agency fees applied.

Hope this is informative.

Thanks, Heidi

Thanks, Heidi!

  1. Now if someone would explain what an EXpressToll account is to someone who lives out of state…

    • Ah! There were a couple of older posts I made because: I flew to Denver, rented a car, and was told there were automated toll roads all around the airport. I asked them how this was handled with rental cars, and they told me “no problem, we’ll bill your credit card on file.”

They did, alright! I was charged the amount of each toll (no problem with that), THEN charged $25 PER TOLL ADMINISTRATIVE FEE by the car rental company.

Ultimately, I had to pay it because (after much digging on their website) it says this in tiny paragraphs. :(

But in my posts I wanted to warn people they should 1) find out if they’ll be using tolls when renting a car 2) if so, see if the rental car has a toll tag system on the car so you only pay the toll charges themselves 3) if they don’t have toll tags in the car, they should have a one-time fee or daily extra fee of, say, $10, and that’s actually cheaper than the $25 per toll fee.

Live and learn! This is only an issue now because most states are getting rid of all manned toll booths. It is starting to happen all over the states. Used to be, you just pay the person in the booth. Now, many states don’t give you that option. Soon, the federal government and other states are going to link up somehow across state lines.

The responseI got was about my particular experience in Denver. She must have read my old posts and wanted to clarify.

    • Denver just calls it the EXpress toll account.
