Hi! How are things? Yeah, I guess so. I think it’s one of those days – you either love it or hate it, eh?

I used to live near Sporty’s (it’s based near Cincinnati), and being in a family of pilots (including me), it was one of our favorite places to shop. They still have one of the best catalogues around. Love your other suggestions too!

Hi again, ColorMusing! You are just a wealth of information – are you sure you don’t want an airline blog?
That’s cool about Sporty’s-I had no idea. Thanks! I was born in Leipsic, OH (close to Lima), and much of my family lives in Columbus and Circleville, OH. It’s a pretty place. We moved when I was very small, but I have great memories there–especially visiting my grandparents there during the holidays. They passed about 10 years ago. They lived close to Grove City, and my grandmother went to the same hairstylist (once a week, you know!) for about 40 years!

Circleville– wow, that name brings back memories! I lived in Dayton for quite a long time, and got my pilot’s license there; my very first solo cross-country flight was to Circleville! (I hear a chorus of “It’s a Small World” coming on…) Where do you live now?

You got your pilot’s license in Dayton? Wow! It IS a small world. My husband and I currently live in Dallas. We travel a lot (I guess that’s a “duh”). But we do like the central location…for now. Good to hear from you! My responses might be a little more sporadic during the holidays, but I always try and answer every one as fast as I can. Deb

Hi Laurie! We thought it was funny. I need to swing by – trying to wrap things up in our “other world” (wasn’t there a soap opera by that name?) before Christmas. How do you handle the holidays? Do you zen out or get wrapped up in the craziness? We don’t have kids, so it’s a little different over here – mostly us, three cats and a giant black Lab!

As a minimalist (I mean that literally) we don’t do the gift-commercial-consumer thing. We’re simply not “stuff” people.
We do have 16 people coming for Christmas dinner. (My husband, Len, is an amazing cook). We’re all about making memories. Hence, we keep it pretty Zen (simple, non-attachment).
I love that you have three cats and a giant black lab!

Hi Laurie! I just loved your email. So, my next question to you would be: do you have any advice on how to get others on board of your minimalist train? My husband and I are minimalists (trying to really break the mold here), and it’s tough trying to know the right thing to say to your family if they like all the stuff or just have fun buying all the stuff. I think your idea of making memories is perfect. I just love that. And, we don’t have children (I would bend a bit on that one, if we did. But our house is cute and tiny, and really, we just don’t need anything!).
Maybe next year I will send out invites to a “No Gifts, Please” nice dinner. That sounds great. Thanks for your thoughts.
